Interior/Exterior Remodel
with Addition

This project transforms a dated 1970s rambler into a modern, light-filled home for a family of four. The original house—defined by a boxy layout, low eaves, and a compartmentalized plan—was reworked to open the interior and strengthen its connection to the surrounding landscape.

The remodel restructures the plan, introduces vaulted ceilings, and strategically adds new windows and doors. Angled glazing follows the roof pitch, drawing the eye upward to the trees, while clerestory and low windows bring in light without sacrificing privacy.

The kitchen was expanded by absorbing an adjacent dining area and squaring off an existing pop-out. Windows extend down to the countertops, maximizing light and views to the backyard. Large sliding doors connect the kitchen, dining, and living spaces to the deck, while skylights above introduce additional daylight.

At the entry, new siding and slate tile define a clearer approach that continues into the foyer. Inside, a vaulted ceiling and skylight brighten the once-compressed space..

Dark wood beams frame the main living area and support the vaulted ceiling, while a cutout above a central beam connects the living space to the new stair and primary suite beyond. A modest “pop-top” addition creates a primary bedroom and a secondary family room above.

The project balances design and economy through the use of durable, builder-grade materials, locally fabricated cabinetry, and energy-efficient windows and doors—resulting in a home that feels open, connected, and renewed.

Before & After

Our remodel of and addition to this 1974 Rambler added much needed square footage, light and rearranged the home’s layout.
